Accomplishments

  • Sustained increase in immunisation coverage above 7 percentage points annually through strong collaboration with hospitals and private service providers and establishment of systems to reach marginalised, highly mobile and hard to reach nomads and pastoralist. With the use of the simulated Coordinated UNICEF support for outbreak response which contributed to interruption of c-VDPV2 outbreak in 2019.
  • Successfully led integrated Polio/Measles/Nutrition campaign and Birth Registration which resulted greater number of children with Birth Certificates.
  • I successfully used the polio programme structure and network to respond the COVID-19 outbreak and outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea associated with a cyclone in Puntland and this structure is maintained for continuous community education for health programmes.
  • Supported preparation of EPI Policy and field guide for routine immunisation and introduction of two new (IPV and Td) vaccines into the immunization programme.
  • Led development of fundraising proposals for Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent health projects more than USD5 million for UNICEF supported projects.
  • Supported Government to develop proposals for fund raising through submission to various bilateral and multilateral donors including Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, GAVI, Global fund, JICA, UK AID, USAID and World Bank.
  • Conducted 10 rounds of SIA for polio and two rounds for measles, achieving over 95 per cent during each round.

  • Build capacity of staff and successfully conducted cold chain equipment inventory using the data to support application for Cold Chain expansion
  • Supported government to implement Community- IMCI/ Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) of malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia in 50 districts with poor access to health services and this reached over 700,000 children under 5 years of age. This project contributed to the reduction in the under 5 mortality in three out of the four the most deprived regions.
  • Through my technical leadership, pioneered implementation of maternal and new born care project which in two regions. This very successful project became flagship UNICEF supported project and provided evidence on how to reduce maternal and new-born deaths in the Ghana context and was scaled up to other deprived districts in the country.
  • Worked with Education section to support government to implement a school health programme; with the WASH section to implement WASH in health facilities project in 50 health facilities and with the Child Protection section to integrate Birth registration into Polio NID thereby increasing birth registration coverage to 70 per cent.
  • Provided technical support for simultaneous introduction of new vaccines (Rota, PCV and MCV2) into the routine immunisation system and participated in the design and conduct of post-introduction survey which contributed to knowledge on new vaccine introduction.
  • Assisted Government to develop key policy and strategic documents including Newborn Care Strategy and Implementation Plan, Child Health Policy and Strategy, c-MYP. These provided direction for all stakeholders.
  • Supported government to develop proposals for raising funds for Malaria and HIV (Global Fund) and for Health System Strengthening (GAVI). With guidance from supervisor, I drafted proposals which were successful and raised over USD 30 million for various Health and nutrition projects.
  • Reviewed all policy documents and developed 3 additional ones to meet identified gaps and address emerging issues related to child survival
  • Led the development of Ghana Health Service 5-Year Strategic Plan 2007-2011.
  • I was officer in charge of the Directorate of Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation for 9 months and provided technical and administrative leadership for the entire Division with 63 staff members. I successfully led the development of a health system strengthening proposal and raised US$10 million for a four-year period.
