Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols , values and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population

Main responsibilities

• Supervising, supporting and evaluating team under responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in team such as cleaners.
• Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures
• Ensuring team work and professional relationship between maternity and other departments.
• Supervising clinical activities in all maternity departments and neonatal department and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaising with Medical Doctor about patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.
• Ensuring that staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in working environment
• Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to protocols, reporting any malfunction to project biomedical service.
• Being responsible for department-related pharmacy activities (by maing inventory, bi-weekly order and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of medical equipment
• Being responsible for ensuring that all administrative procedures, patients' data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling weekly and monthly reports reflecting activity in department.
• Ensuring that maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to victims of SGBV in collaboration with Obs and gynecologist MD and following protocols.
• Participated in continuous improvement by generating suggestions, engaging in problem-solving activities to support teamwork
• Maintained excellent attendance record, consistently arriving to work on time

Ensure quality Antenatal, postnatal care, and skilled delivery care to women in accordance to Basic Emergency obstetric and newborn care guidelines Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care .

Main responsibilities

• Carry out interview, observation and examination of pregnant women correctly and document on patients card and in ANC register, report any abnormality to Doctor in duty.
• Do systematic examination of pregnant woman following protocol
• Identify, counsel and report any high risk pregnancy to Doctor.
• Ensure that woman is vaccinated and taking folic acid or iron and give information to patient about their treatment.
• Keep accurate record of ANC consultations, do weekly statistics and submit to data manager on weekly basis.
• Give general and specific health information to all ANC women
• Perform and interpret correctly routine test and send it to lab and Ensure you get result back.
• Take responsibility of all equipment and items under her custody
• Do inventory of drugs and other items and make orders according to needs
• Participate in trainings and clinical meetings to improve knowledge and skills.
• Responsible by IPD/delivery midwife and ANC midwife is there to support in day time, depending on workload of each midwife.
• Admit woman in clean environment
• Take history of past medical, surgical, obstetrical and gynecological history, then present obstetric history
• Monitoring mother for progress of labor and document all findings using labor progress chart.
• Perform immediate newborn care and basic resuscitation if needed.
• Report to doctor in duty if newborn is unwell after immediate care then refer.
• Ensure that the rotten care (mother & newborn) is delivered according to the protocols.
• Give health education on hygiene, good nutrition and fluids, rest, breastfeeding, postnatal follow-up, vaccination and Family Planning
• Assesses mother and child according to postnatal protocol found in clinic room, taking thorough history and examining for any signs of infection, assessing baby's feeding.
• Advices mother on care of her baby, Breastfeeding, vaccination and keeping baby warm and come to health facility if either of them is unwell
• Inquires about breastfeeding and sleeping habits
• Checks skin for rashes
• Checks umbilical stump for healing and any abnormality
