Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols , values and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population


Main responsibilities

  • Supervising, supporting and evaluating team under responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in team such as cleaners.
  • Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures
  • Ensuring team work and professional relationship between maternity and other departments.
  • Supervising clinical activities in all maternity departments and neonatal department and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaising with Medical Doctor about patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.
  • Ensuring that staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in working environment

Main responsibilities

  • Carry out interview, observation and examination of pregnant women correctly and document on patients card and in ANC register, report any abnormality to Doctor in duty.

  • Monitoring mother for progress of labor and document all findings using labor progress chart.
  • Perform immediate newborn care and basic resuscitation if needed.
  • Report to doctor in duty if newborn is unwell after immediate care then refer.
  • Ensure that the rotten care (mother & newborn) is delivered according to the protocols.
  • Give health education on hygiene, good nutrition and fluids, rest, breastfeeding, postnatal follow-up, vaccination and Family Planning
  • Assesses mother and child according to postnatal protocol found in clinic room, taking thorough history and examining for any signs of infection, assessing baby's feeding.
  • Advices mother on care of her baby, Breastfeeding, vaccination and keeping baby warm and come to health facility if either of them is unwell
