Conflict Analysis, Political Engagement, and Mediation Support

• Monitor and analyze political and security dynamics in Somalia and the broader East and Horn of Africa, particularly in Kenya. This includes a focus on inter- and intra-communal conflict, violent extremism, and regional power shifts, as well as Somalia's efforts to join the East African Community.
• Serve as the primary contact for the Kenya–Somalia maritime boundary dispute, closely monitoring the implementation of the International Court of Justice's ruling on 12 October 2021, which significantly favored Somalia, and assisting in the formulation of the Joint Commission for Cooperation between the two countries.
• Provide ongoing reporting and analysis on the activities of Al-Shabaab, including their evolving tactics, territorial control, and impact on communities, supporting counterterrorism efforts and informing strategic interventions on both sides of the Somalia–Kenya border.
• Facilitate and report on reconciliation and dialogue processes, including the Somalia–Somaliland talks and sub-national political dialogues aimed at reducing local tensions and strengthening cohesion.
• Develop and maintain networks with civil society actors, regional administrations, women’s groups, and youth-led initiatives focused on conflict resolution and peacebuilding, thereby amplifying local ownership and inclusion.

Strategic Reporting and Political Advisory

• Draft analytical reports, daily situation updates, talking points, and briefing notes to support senior UN leadership in political engagement, mediation, and strategic planning.
• Track the progress of constitutional reforms, national elections, and legislative activities, providing early warning analysis and context-specific recommendations to support stability and democratic governance.
